Next Meeting: September 16 | LAGERS Cup
Bring small bills (and 64oz of beer)
Bring $2 to the meeting on Monday for your vote. If you’re submitting your Belgian, bring at least 64oz, and please sign in your beer right when you arrive.
The member whose beer has the most votes at the meeting will get half of the pot. This quarter’s winner will also earn 10 (8 if tie) points in the overall standings. Second place will earn 7 (6 if tie) points. (Full rules and information here.)
Before the meeting, learn more about the Single and Dubbel style guidelines. (Note: This is not a BJCP-sponsored competition. We’re providing this information for club members to learn more about the style in advance of the LAGERS Cup.)
Competition heating up
With two rounds to go, the Cup is still anyone’s to win. However, a strong showing from a previous first or second place finisher will put them in great position to go down in history as the club’s first LAGERS Cup champion (and win half of each quarter’s pot).
Final round: Stouts on December 16
To compete in the fourth and final round of the LAGERS Cup, brew any style of stout, and bring it to our December meeting.
Yappy Hour: September 28
Sign up to volunteer
Sign up to volunteer at Yappy Hour! The more beer we sell, the more money we raise for the Humane Society.
We need volunteers for the following shifts:
- 12pm-5pm
- 5-10pm
- Takedown after 10pm
Keg your beer by September 23
Members are responsible for all transfers and kegging of their Yappy Hour beer. They also must provide their own kegs. Apocalypse Brew Works (ABW) will carbonate the beers, but members must keg beers by Monday, September 23. Expect your keg to remain at ABW until your beer sells out.
Thank you to those who have kegged their beer already. For those who haven’t, ABW’s hours are:
- Monday: 4-8pm
- Tuesday: Closed
- Wednesday: Closed
- Thursday: 4-8pm
- Friday 4-10pm
- Saturday 4-10pm
- Sunday: 2-10pm
Invite your friends
Please invite your friends, family, colleagues and anyone you know who likes beer! Yappy Hour raises awareness for our hobby and club, and we make an impact on the Humane Society with our annual donation. We’ve raised over $38,000 since 2012. Last year, we raised $4,000, and our goal is to raise $5,000 this year.
Brew-In
Several LAGERS members brought their systems to ABW to brew their Yappy Hour beer. Thanks to all who made this another successful brew-in!

Brewery Collaborations
West 6
LAGERS partnered with West 6 NuLu to brew for Beer Week. Thank you to the members who voted in our Facebook poll.
Louisville Beer Week 2024 runs from October 18-27.
Noble Funk: Imperial Festbier
Thank you to Noble Funk brewer Johnathan Shrader for partnering with LAGERS to brew Oktzilla (Imperial Oktoberfest) and Fest Vom Fass (barrel-aged Oktzilla)! Alex R won an opportunity to brew with Noble Funk at our holiday party. His NHC award-winning festbier recipe was the inspiration for these beers.
Johnathan hosted the club at the brewery for the beer release and gave us a wonderful tour.
Previous Meeting: Kveik Yeast at Awry
Thank you to Awry brewers T-Mart and Alex for hosting us at their brewery and sharing more about Kveik yeast.
State Fair Volunteers
Thank you to our State Fair volunteers! Several LAGERS members tabled at the State Fair to spread the word about homebrewing and our club (and got a few extra free tickets). Please consider volunteering next year to introduce more Kentuckians to our hobby.
