This year, the Louisville Ale Trail crew is back at it again with exciting news for Louisville Beer Week 2020. If you haven’t gotten a chance to see the announcement where breweries all over town were matched up for collaborations, you can watch it here.
The LAGERS were asked to participate this year and we were thrilled to say YES! For Louisville Beer Week, the club was paired with our old host and friends at Goodwood Brewing and Distilling. To make things interesting, we decided to revive the pro-am competition with a slight twist. Louisville Beer Week this year is 10/23-10/30 so that does not leave us with a whole lot of time to get beer brewed, submitted, judged, brewed again, and packaged. For this reason, we will be opening up the competition to the public to get some more entries and involvement from the homebrewing community. It’s Louisville Beer Week after all, and we think everyone that enjoys beer deserves to be involved. If you are not a LAGERS member, we ask for a small $5 entry fee (+ paypal transaction fees) to go towards the club. Should you choose to become a member, we can put that fee towards the membership cost.
Style Guidelines:
Goodwood is asking our local homebrew community to come up with some unique innovations for the best unfiltered American IPA. The guidelines are fairly broad so you can make it a sour milkshake fruited IPA if your heart so desires and it doesn’t have to be hazy. If you choose to make your IPA sour, consider that they can only kettle sour, no bugs post boil please. No limitations on what grain, hops, or yeast you can use but the ABV is limited to a range of 5.5%-7%. This is your opportunity to get creative and show the city how you can push the boundaries of “beer”
Timeline and drop-off:
Submissions are due at the NuLu Goodwood location (636 E Main St, Louisville, KY 40202) by Wednesday, September 9th at 10PM. We understand the delicacies of these types of beers so they will be kept cold until they are opened. Judging will commence the following day by a select panel of Goodwood staff and Louisville Ale Trail crew. We will announce winners that day. Best beer on the table wins! Please submit qty 3 of any size bottle or can per entry. Limit 2 entries per person. Provide your name, beer name, and recipe details on a paper either plastic wrapped or ziplocked with your entry so that we may be able to identify it while stewarding. Bottles, cans, or caps must not contain any other markings. If paying for your entry, we ask that you submit payment before the submission due date. We will close this form to responses as soon as the deadline has past.
Reward:
The winner will get to brew their recipe on the 5 BBL system in the brand new Goodwood facility in Frankfort KY with the brewers. Dates will be set once the recipe is provided to Goodwood and ingredients are ordered. Your beer will be released to the public during Louisville Beer Week as an official collaboration brew with Goodwood and will be put on the highlighted list of collabs for the week. It’s a high honor so I hope you all bring your A game! Cheers and good luck!
