This month we will be meeting outside at Apocalypse Brew Works on Monday the 21st Tuesday the 22nd at 6PM for our first in-person meeting since the pandemic began. With the announcement of the state fair homebrewing competition happening this year, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to run you through a crash course in off flavors found in beer. Our very own sensory scientist and club treasurer, Sarah Popko, will be walking us through the proper methods to evaluate beer as well as common off-flavors found in beer, how they’re derived, and how to avoid them in the production process. Beer will be served with carefully dosed quantities for tasting but supplies are limited so make sure to get there on time. Should the weather take a turn for the worse, we will raincheck and communicate accordingly.
When you get there, we ask that you please follow the latest covid guidelines (expected to change between the time this meeting is announced and the actual event date). In an effort to limit exposure to club members, we will be providing the beer in single use containers for the meeting. Should you choose to bring your own beer for sharing, the single use containers will be available for all. Please refrain from sharing glassware.
Shoutout to the crew at ABW for hosting us for what seems like our first return to normalcy as well as for providing services to the club during the pandemic such as the bulk grain buys (we ordered over 2000 lbs of grain again this season!) Make sure to show your appreciation by buying a beer and remember to drink responsibly!
