May Newsletter

Spring has sprung and it’s Derby time in Louisville! Hoping everyone is having a great year so far.  The bulk grain pickup was a success, I want to thank everyone for being understanding about the extra costs.  Hopefully, freight prices will come down soon.

Membership Dues

It’s that time of year! Please pay your membership dues if you haven’t already.  We raised the price from $20 to $25 ($30 for couples) to cover rising costs, mostly insurance. There is also a $2 fee for using PayPal, which can be avoided by paying cash at a meeting or event.  You don’t need to be a member to come to meetings, but you should be a member to come to the Spring and Winter LAGER parties.  Also to participate in various LAGERS events like Yappy Hour, Bulk Grain buys, BBOTT, etc. Other perks include being able to use the club’s all-in-one electric ANVIL brewing system and borrowing from our tool library.

Spring Party

The Spring party is going to be on Saturday, June 3rd.  Matthew Ledington was kind enough to offer his space for the party. You can find everything you need to know on the official Facebook event page.  It’s a potluck so bring your favorite dish! LAGERS will provide BBQ, a vegetarian main, and soft drinks.  We’ll have our giant jockey box on hand, so feel free to bring a keg of homebrew to put on!  Also, Matthew has a pool, so bring your bathing suits and go for a dip if you’d like!

Presenters Needed

We are looking for folks to give presentations or talks at our monthly meetings.  This can be pretty much anything you want, as long as its brewing/fermentation related, and we haven’t talked about it recently.  If you or someone you know might be interested, please email lagersclub@gmail.com for more information.

Critical Feedback Corner – Starting in June

We are going to go forward with the mini-feedback sessions starting at the June meeting. I am out of town this month, sorry! So far, we have five folks signed up to help give feedback.  I’d love to get several more!  If you are a BJCP judge or are studying to become one, please reach out to me. It will only take 20-30 minutes of your time, and you don’t need to do it at every meeting.

If you want feedback on your beer, keep an eye out for the signup sheet that will be sent out prior to the June meeting.
