Congrats to Tim Moore: LAGERS Cup Champ
Tim Moore won the first annual LAGERS Cup with his first-place stout in December (and two second-place beers). He shared his winning recipe:
Malt bill: Mash in at 140°. Step up to 154° and hold for 75mins. Raise to 169° for mash out. Cold steep roasted and chocolate malts overnight and add to mash for final 15mins.

- 6% Caravienne
- 6% Smoked malt
- 3.4% Special B
- 3.4% Chocolate malt
- 3.4% Roasted barley
- 3.3% Naked oats
- 3% Crystal 80°L
Hop schedule
- 1oz Northern Brewer – 60min
- .75oz Magnum – 60min
- 1oz East Kent Golding – 30min
- 1oz Fuggles – 20min
- .6oz Fuggles – 5min
Yeast: 1.89L of wort (6.4oz DME) as starter for 3.5gal batch. .7tsp yeast nutrient at 10mins.
- 2 packages Nottingham
Water
- RO water
Tim narrowly beat Alex (2nd place overall, with two first-place beers) and Craig (3rd place overall, with a first-place and second-place beer).
2025 LAGERS Cup Schedule
If you haven’t already, start brewing your LAGERS Cup entries for 2025! The scoring system starts over this March, and it rewards participation.
- March: American Pale Ale.
- June: Honey. (Use honey as an adjunct.)
- September: Marzen.
- December: Belgian Golden Strong.
Congrats to Sean Spaulding: Tailspin Champ
Sean Spaulding won the 2025 Tailspin Homebrew Competition with his Ten Grain Stout. He will brew his winning beer at Apocalypse Brew Works and serve it at Bowman Field on March 1.
Congrats also to Craig Martin (2nd place) and Ron Kraemer (3rd place). They both won a General Admission ticket.

Mead Judging Exam: Join Facebook Group
Join the LAGERS Mead Exam Study Group if you are interested in becoming a certified mead judge. The group will discuss tips for passing the online exam and prepare for the tasting exam in August.

Think about nominating yourself or a fellow member for an officer position.
Officers serve one-year terms and are nominated every April and elected during a closed club meeting every May.
