The dogs (and a few cats) are out for the annual Yappy Hour at Apocalypse Brew Works. L.A.G.E.R.S. Homebrew Club members created 21 beers to satisfy every tastebud in town. With 21 beers from Chocolate Porters to German Wheats to Saisons, IPA’s, Brown, Pale and Gose, there is something to sooth the beast. Sample the traditional beers along with brews featuring bacon, cherry, lime and hibiscus. Apocalypse Brew Works will also be serving their regular line up of beers. This event supports the Kentucky Humane Society.
2017 Yappy Hour Beer List
#1 Peanut, the Chocolate Lab – Peanut butter and chocolate Porter. Smooth and rich. ABV 5.7%. Brewed by Mark Robinson
#2 What’s your favorite beer … This Hefe – German Hefeweizen with a pinch of bitter orange peel to add a twist of flavor. Lots of banana and clove like you expect … citrus when you don’t. ABV about 5.1% (forgot to get original gravity) – Brewed by the fabulous trio of Craig Gardone, Nick Eimers and David Mueller.
#3 SMBA – Smoked Maple Bacon Amber! – Bacon, Bacon, Bacon, Bacon! A Smoked Bacon Red Ale with a touch of Maple syrup flavor added! Refreshing and amazingly drinkable! ABV 5% Brewed by Dan Flaherty.
#4 Jose – This German Shepherd-Chihuahua mix combines agave and lime with traditional German grains and hops to give this Cream Ale big citrus flavor with no bite. ABV 4.5%. Brewed by Henry Hunt
#5 Cherry Bomb Chocolate Porter – Aged on 5 lbs of dark sweet cherries and cocoa nibs, this porter explodes with cherry on the front end and finishes with smooth chocolate flavor. Brewed by Ben Wilson
#6 Fetch Me A Chocolate Porter – Like a sweet milk chocolate bar melting in your mouth ABV 5.8%. Brewed by Tim Moore.
#7 Kitty Chaser IPA – New England Style IPA with pale malt, flaked oats and a healthy addition of Simcoe hops. ABV 5.5%. Brewed by Michael Blose
#8 Pink Belly Ale – Hoppy, hibiscus, Pale Ale. Brewed by Sarah Popko and Greg Butorin.
#9 Puppy Kisses :) – English Special Bitters, a perfectly mild balance of hops and malt, refreshing and tasty! 5.1% ABV. Brewed by Larry Richardson
#10 Brexit Pride – A European Union Fail Ale. Traditional English Mild, 3.5%. Brewed by Tim Thomas and Gus Klein
#11 Hazy Dog Daze RYE NEIPA – heaps of new world hops added late for juicy goodness with moderate bitterness. Rye and British pale malt give this hazy dog new tricks. ABV 5.5%. Brewed by Sean Spaulding.
#12 Hikers Kilt Scottish Ale – An easy drinking malty ale. 4.4% ABV. Brewed by Ron White
#13 Une Chatte Delicieuse — An Abbey Dubbel with rich, malty flavors and hints of dark cherry and plum. ABV – 6.2%, IBU – 25. Brewed by Jason Rosenberger
#14 Lucy the Pomchi Saison– Belgain style ale. Nugget hops, ABV 5.5% brewed by Trevor Cole Brock
#15 Pure Bread SMASH – A single malt, single hop ale brewed with German Pils and Citra hop. This simple unmixed brew is an easy drinker and light in body. It is sure to satisfy and please the dog show judges. May not be best in show, it will be a fan favorite. ABV 4.7%. Brewed by Tyler Gupton.
#16 Belgian Summer – Crisp classic Saison dry hopped with Citra. Brewed by Mando Barajas
#17 JD’s Liquid Courage – Thirst quenching kick to the throat. This Gose is brewed with pink Himalayan sea salt and fresh crushed coriander. A truly refreshing beer bursting with huge notes of lemon and lime. ABV 6.2%. Brewed by JD Vasher.
#18 The Drooling Citra – Potentially a classic Citra hopped IPA. ABV 6.5%. Brewed By Matt and Mark Fenzel.
#19 Barknado Brown – An American Brown Ale likely to send all the puppers and doggos into a heckin big whirlwind. ABV 5.6%. Brewed by Doug Godfrey.
#20 Drink Me: Award Winning Beer – Delicious NEIPA. Easy drinking beer, with a candy like aroma and slight hop bitterness. Brewed by Loren Prizant.
#21 Monster Mash – Milkshake IPA. NEIPA hopped with Citra and Galaxy, with lactose and vanilla bean added, plus the addition of peach/mango juice makes for a thick creamy fruity brew meant to resemble a fruited milkshake. 5.4% ABV. Brewed by Spencer Guy.
