April 17– April Monthly Meeting– “Growing Hops” Thought about growing your own hops? Hop farmer and LAGERS member Michael Vincent Taylor is going to talk to us about growing hops – from planting the rhizomes to harvesting the cones.
May 15– May Monthly Meeting– “Beekeeping Basics” Ever thought about keeping bees? Wanna use your own honey for making mead? Just curious how it is done? On behalf of the Kentuckiana Beekeepers Association, LAGERS own Lara Augustine will talk about all things beekeeping, and tell you how you can get started with your own hives. June 10– LAGERS Summer Party– Beer, BBQ and good times!
Our March meeting was a big hit thanks to LAGER member Justin Vasher providing a spectacular educational session on managing your personal yeast bank.
We also got to see the new LAGERS club website courtesy of a presentation from LAGER Henry Hunt — we are looking forward to working with Henry and seeing more great content on our website.
On March 29th the LAGERS were invited to attend a tapping party at Gordon Biersch for the winning beer of this years GB Pro Am competition– Christopher Owen’s British Golden Ale. Thanks to all of the club members who made it out to enjoy the beer and help with fund raising for Boys and Girls Club of Louisville. Special thanks also to our host Nick Landers of Gordon Biersch!
Congrats to Kenny Lyons for a bronze medal in the first round of the NHC competition for his Gose. Great job!
The officers are working on finalizing details for a brew in at Goodwood on April 15th– what better way to spend “tax day” than by brewing, eating, and drinking with your fellow LAGERS? We will provide more info on the event as soon as possible. We are also setting up for the spring LAGERS Bulk Grain Buy so be on the lookout for information about that soon as well. We will keep you posted as details are finalized.
April and May are important months for the LAGERS club as we prepare to nominate and elect our panel of officers for the next year. We will take nominations during the April meeting and the elections will be held during the May meeting, so please make every effort to attend these meetings!
One final note– I know everyone is anxious for a resolution to our issue with having homebrew at our meetings; we realize this is a huge part of what our club is about and something that everyone enjoys participating in. The good news is your officers have a potential solution in the works and we hope to have the solution in place before our next meeting. We will update everyone as soon as we can with more details.
