Lagers Newsletter – January 2017

Good afternoon Lagers! Let me first apologize for the tardiness in delivering the newsletter to you for last month. With that said, see below for upcoming club events and recent happenings!

Upcoming Events:
February 18– Tailspin Ale Festival
February 20– February Monthly Meeting– “Sanitize Like the Pros” Nick Landers from Gordon Biersch will be our guest speaker and will tell us how professional brewers sanitize their equipment for brewing large scale batches.
March 4– LAGERS Brew in at Akasha
March 20– March Monthly Meeting– “Yeast Plating and Slants” Ever wanted to build up your own yeast library? Maintain your own cultures? Isolate your own wild Brett? Isolate a culture from a bottled beer? Justin Vasher is going to talk to us about plating yeast and isolating pure cultures.
April 17– April Monthly Meeting– “Growing Hops” Thought about growing your own hops? Hop farmer and LAGERS member Michael Vincent Taylor is going to talk to us about growing hops – from planting the rhizomes to harvesting the cones.

The January meeting was a big hit with our members and we had a great turnout. Thanks to all of our members and guests who attended and especially to those who brought beer! Also a special thanks to Rick Stidham of Akasha who gave an outstanding talk on Souring Beer.

The third annual Gordon Biersch Brew Off was held on January 7th– congrats to our President Christopher Owen for placing first with his Commonwealth Golden Ale. 2nd place went to Evan Brill for his English Porter, and 3rd place to (again) Christopher Owen for his Dark Mild. Thanks Nick Landers for hosting the competition! We will provide more info on the tapping party when we have it scheduled.

We have a series of really great educational topics with great presenters set up for the next several meetings– hope to see all of you there! Come out to the meetings and bring a friend! And bring something you brewed to share!

See you soon….
