September 16th — Monthly Meeting – Makgeolli
September 20th — Yappy Hour
Big thank you to Apocalypse Brew Works, Brewgrass Homebrew Supply, and all the LAGERS members that came out to brew for yappy hour. Without you, this event would not be possible! Thanks to everyone that brought food and beer and took the time to talk to anyone interested in the hobby. We welcome all of the new members that joined with open arms. Cheers!
We had 15 brewers out which means you’ll get the opportunity to try 15 unique beers on September 20th. The proceeds go towards the KY humane society and it’s our biggest philanthropic event of the year. If you were there to learn to brew with Brewgrass Homebrew Supply, you’ll also get the opportunity to try that very beer you learned about.
During the brew-in, 8 beers were judged for the Cumberland Pro-Am competition. We asked you to bring your best English, Scottish, and Irish beers and you all delivered! Our winners collaborated together to bring us a phenomenal Scottish wee heavy. Congratulations Craig Gardone and Loren Prizant. We look forward to having this one on tap at Cumberland Brewing. Details on the tapping party will be sent out at a later date.
Hopefully everyone’s wort is fermenting away at Apocalypse into tasty beer. Please have your beer in kegs by September 6th. If you do not have a keg and need one, please reach out to one of the officers and we will make arrangements for you. If you brewed for the event, please fill out the survey linked in the next paragraph with your beer details. Remember, clever names sell!
As always, we will need volunteers to pour beer at the Yappy Hour event on September 20th. If you wish to volunteer, please fill out the following survey: https://forms.gle/M7QwNh4bNpgMpYkn9
If you purchased a brewers shirt and haven’t had the chance to pick them up, we will have them at the Yappy Hour event. Make sure to wear yours if you plan to attend!
This August many of you competed, judged, and stewarded in the Kentucky State Fair. Congratulations to all the winners, you all swept the competition, proving once more that the LAGERS are some of the best brewers in the state! Scoresheets are scanned and sent electronically this year. Results can be found on our website: https://199.250.204.205/~lagers/blog-post/2019-ksf-homebrew-competition-winners/
We do not have an August meeting. Next monthly meeting will be September 16th where Mark Robinson will be talking to us about a South Korean fermented rice wine called makgeolli (pronounced mak-o-lee). Be sure to stick around to try some homebrewed and commercial examples straight from Korea and if you’ve got it, bring homebrew!
